HKIC held a volunteer sharing session at the Sheung Shui Campus on 23 October, inviting two volunteers from the Hong Kong Lawn Bowls team, Elton Fung and Victoria Lam, to share their volunteer experiences and insights with students. The speakers recounted their journey from assisting athletes with disabilities in their daily training to accompanying them at international sporting events like the Paris Paralympics. They candidly expressed that volunteer work is not as easy as it is often perceived. Despite the significant time and energy commitment required, the deep friendships formed with the athletes and witnessing their growth and achievement of dreams serve as the speakers' motivation to continue their volunteer efforts.

The speakers believe that volunteering can start with caring for those around us, such as spending time chatting with the elderly, which also embodies the spirit of volunteering. They encouraged students to maintain an open mindset to explore the meaning of volunteer work, without placing overly high expectations on themselves. The key is to cultivate patience, learn to listen and appreciate others’ strengths, and provide affirmation and encouragement. They believe that this sharing session can inspire students’ interest in volunteer service, motivating them to take action and give back to society. It is hoped that this sharing session will inspire students to take an interest in volunteer service, engage actively, and give back to the community.
