Background
To encourage graduates of Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC) and employees to participate in trainee programmes, the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and the Construction Industry Council (CIC) endorsed in 2018 recommendations on the Apprenticeship Scheme (Civil & Building Work Trades). The Scheme was approved by CITB in March 2019 and officially named the “Construction Industry Council Approved Technical Talents Training Programmes” (CICATP). In March 2021, HKIC established the CICATP Approved Employer List. Through formulating and administering an employer assessment system, the quality and resources of the on-the-job training provided by employers for apprentice training purses can be better regulated. This ensures that apprentices can receive skill training at the senior tradesman level for their respective trades under suitable construction environment and guidance of instructors so that the training resources of HKIC are put to even better use.
Objectives
To identify using objective criteria employers with a positive attitude towards training and good training resources who can guide HKIC graduates to pursue their long-term development in the construction industry as our partners in training programmes.
Targets of the Approved Employer List
Employers who are applying for or currently taking part in “Construction Industry Council Approved Technical Talents Training Programmes” (CICATP).
Benefits of establishing the Approved Employer List
- The employer will be able to work closely with HKIC to be matched with suitable graduates in a shorter time, thereby increasing the chance of recruiting outstanding graduates and retaining them in the company for development. This strengthens manpower development and management and facilitates the organisation in establishing and maintaining a technical team.
- The HKIC Career Portal displays the registered identity of the employer for graduates’ favourable consideration when they browse for job vacancies and seek employment.
- Approved employers can use the employer list logo on their websites and promotional materials, allowing the public to identify quality employers.
- Employers with a good performance in training will be given recognition or invited to the Employers Appreciation Ceremony, and the organisational image and popularity will be enhanced.
- HKIC provides career counselling to graduates of all full-time one-year courses, full-time two-year courses, and full-time short courses.
- During their initial period of employment, HKIC will follow up on the graduates and offer counselling to help them adapt to working in the construction industry.
