Introduction

The predecessor of School of Professional Development in Construction (SPDC) was established in 1994 and it had been previously named as the “Management & Safety Training Centre (MSTC)” and the “Centre for Professional Development (CPD)”. SPDC is the professional education arm of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC) and it is established to provide professional and continuing education pathways for industry practitioners in construction.

Development & Positioning

Under the leadership of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC), with the support of the Hong Kong SAR government and the collaborative efforts of various industry partners, the School of Professional Development in Construction (SPDC) is dedicated to offering the finest continuing education courses and specialised training for construction industry professionals.

The significance of skills, knowledge, specialisation, and innovative technologies across different sectors of the construction industry is growing, pushing industry performance to new milestones. SPDC focuses on providing continuing education for professionals in the construction field, as well as offering training opportunities for frontline managers and supervisors who aspire to advance their careers. By enhancing their industry knowledge, qualifications, and competitiveness, SPDC prepares these individuals for promotions to engineering management roles. To meet the industry's professional training demands and support the implementation of Construction 2.0, SPDC continually improves the quality of its courses, aiming to be the premier institution for continuing education for construction professionals in Hong Kong and establishing itself as a leading management and specialised technical training centre.

Professional education & Development

SPDC provides high quality, market-driven professional education & development programmes that help bridge the gap between the demand and supply of competent construction professionals.

In order to help construction professionals and industry practitioners to upgrade and enhance their professional competencies, professional ethics and competitiveness, SPDC is providing professional training programmes that enable the construction practitioners to pursue relevant and recognised qualifications not only to meet the industry’s needs, but also to provide them with the continuous learning opportunities and pathways for their career and professional advancement in construction.

SPDC is developing various professional education & development programmes in construction, in particular in the areas of Construction Digitisation, Industrialisation, Innovations and New Technologies. These programmes will help the construction industry drive forward productivity, quality and enhanced project outcomes and hence achieve the sustainable development of the future construction industry in Hong Kong.

Our programmes

SPDC offers a variety of programmes* which help construction professionals and industry practitioners to upgrade themselves regularly and undertake continuing education. Our programmes can be classified into four broad categories:

1. Future Construction Excellence (FCE)
2. Building information modelling (BIM)
3. Construction management
4. Construction technology and quality
5. Master class

* Certain programmes have been recognised by CITF and NITTP. Eligible students can apply for subsidies for tuition fees.

SPDC has launched several Master Classes covering topics such as MiC Project Implementation, Common Data Environment, Design for Safety (DfS), Safety Leadership Culture, AI for Construction, Digital Twin and Temporary Works, so that management personnel of the industry can upgrade and increase competitiveness.
