Due to the shortage of construction worker and limited land use, many cities like Hong Kong is heading to the direction of improving construction efficiency by adopting more efficient construction method such as Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) to building high-rise buildings. Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) is one of the game changing technologies that support the DfMA concept to significantly speed up construction. It is a new method of construction whereby free-standing integrated modules (completed with finishes, fixtures and fittings) are prefabricated in a factory and then transported to site for installation in a building. Speaker shares with the audiences his insight knowledge on DfMA and MiC.
This seminar, organized by the Centre for Professional Development of Hong Kong Institute of Construction, aims at introducing the design considerations of modular construction technology and demonstrates the benefits of Modular Integrated Construction through project case study.
