The instructors of Carpentry and Joinery from the Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC) visited Guangzhou Light Industry Technician College (GLITC) on 13 November 2024 to exchange with their WorldSkills Teams in Joinery, Carpentry and Cabinet Making, sharing the experiences of the skills competitions and exploring the collaboration and development opportunities in the future.

The expert in Joinery of HKIC and the trainer in Joinery of GLITC shared the training and competition experiences of the China and Hong Kong competitors. The mutual advice and the competitors’ desire for improvement enhanced their skill levels. The trainers in Carpentry and Cabinet Making highlighted the difficulties of the two skills competitions. Carpentry involves complex setting out, which the competitor needs to figure out how to switch between 3D and 2D, while Cabinet Making focuses not only on the accuracy in measurement and appearance, but also the balance of the door assembly.

The instructors visited the Digital and Intelligence Integration Innovative Talent Training Base of GLITC, exploring the use of AI in data collection and processing for competitor performance analysis and for monitoring the whole training under safety measurement. They also visited the training bases to know more about their safe and efficient equipment. The visit provided HKIC with valuable insights and preparation strategies for the next WorldSkills Competition!
