Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC) has been providing quality construction training in Hong Kong for over 45 years.
The 3rd Hong Kong Construction Skills Competition, organised by the Construction Industry Council (CIC), featured the Fundamental Group competition this year, allowing interested secondary school students to deepen their understanding of the construction skills and familiarise with the competition format.
The competition concluded successfully on 7 December 2024, with more than twenty secondary school students participating in Bricklaying, Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Plumbing and Heating, Wall and Floor Tiling, as well as Welding. The competition lasted for two hours, and the participants tried their best to complete the tasks by applying the skills they learned in the training.
The participants found the competition enjoyable and challenging. The participants in Joinery noted that employing certain techniques could expedite their work. Those participating in Bricklaying and Wall and Floor Tiling mentioned the necessity of sufficient physical strength to handle the competition. Welding participants understood the importance of safety throughout the competition. All participants have showed their interest in engaging in similar activities and even exploring other skills in the future.
