The Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC) hosted a sharing session “Crafting Dreams Winning the Future” at Sheung Shui campus on 16 December 2024, featuring Mr. HUANG Bolin, the Gold Medallist in Joinery of WorldSkills Lyon 2024, and his trainer, Mr. ZHAI Zixi, to share their training experiences and their journey to become World No. 1. Mr. FONG Chun-yin, received the Medallion for Excellence in Joinery from CIC, also shared his experiences of participating in the WorldSkills Competition. 

Bolin initially studied furniture design and production in junior school before transitioning to joinery. Mr. ZHAI mentioned that they adopted PDCA circuit training for the competitors. Through “Planning”, “Doing”, “Checking”, and “Acting”, improvements will be made for every new training session to upskill the abilities of the competitors.

To adapt to the time difference in France, Bolin adjusted his training schedule a month before the competition. During the intensive training with Chun-yin, they have supported each other. Bolin also shared the obstacles encountered during the competition and the ways he overcame them. His years of effort and perseverance paid off when he won the gold medal, reaching the pinnacle of his life!

After the sharing session, the guests also visited the training bases at Sheung Shui campus of HKIC to understand the equipment and exchange insights with the masters to achieve better results in the upcoming WorldSkills Competition together.
