Curriculum
Knowledge of Explosives : Classification of Explosives, Transport / Storage and Handling of Explosives, Types of Explosives, Properties of Explosives; Knowledge of Blasting : Theory of Blasting, Drilling Operations, Blasting Design, Calculation of Explosive Charge, Controlled Blasting, Effects of Blasting, Case Study of Blasting in Difficult Conditions; Safety for Blasting Operation : Safety Working Procedure, Protective and Precautionary Measures Taken, Extraneous Electricity Hazards, Examination of Blast Area after Firing, Handling of Misfires, Documentation – Completion of Shotfirer Charging Details, Charges that cannot be discharged on the Explosives Delivery Day, Inclement Weather – Typhoon, Thunderstorm or red/black rainstorm.
Recognition
Successful completion of this programme is one of the criteria for application for the “Mine Blasting Certificate” issued by the Civil Engineering and Development Department.
Admission Requirement
1. Completion of Form 3 or equivalent;
2. Two years of work experience in the construction industry; and
3. Able to read and write Chinese.
4. Applicants who do not meet the requisite academic qualification must pass the Chinese and English test of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction.
