Introduction

WorldSkills Competition, hailed as the “Skills Olympics”, organised every two years by the WorldSkills International, is the international vocational education and skills competition with an aim to provide a platform to exchange the skills and knowledge for the experts, trainers and competitors and to uplift professional skills and social statuses of the construction technicians.

CIC WorldSkills Team has participated in WorldSkills Competition since 1997, and over 40 competitors aged 22 or below participated in 7 trades, including Bricklaying, Concrete Construction Work, Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Plumbing and Heating, Wall and Floor Tiling and Welding. A total of 7 medals were obtained in the previous competitions. The 48th WorldSkills Competition will take place at Shanghai in September 2026.

Bricklaying
Competitors are required to perform various skills, including working from plans and specification, using various tools and brick-cutting machines, checking vertical and horizontal alignment, constructing ornamental brickwork, and keeping workplace clean and tidy.
Concrete Construction Work Image
Concrete Construction Work
Competitors are required to perform various skills, including reading the construction drawing, working from plans and specification, using tools, erecting scaffolding and checking vertical and horizontal alignment, and keeping workplace clean and tidy.
Joinery Image
Joinery
Competitors are required to perform various skills, including working under plans and specification, using various tools and machines to cut and shape wood pieces accurately, producing precise vertical and horizontal alignment, constructing arches and ornamental woodwork, and keeping work area clean and tidy.
Painting and Decorating Image
Painting and Decorating
Competitors are required to perform professional painting and decorating skills in a short period of time. This requires a careful understanding of the requirements / drawings and precise application of various skills including designs / colours, painting, spraying, decorative, coatings, wallpapering, gilding, and sign writing. Meanwhile, the competitors are required to perform a Free Technique in specified area.
Plumbing and Heating Image
Plumbing and Heating
Competitors are required to plan, design, select, install, commission, test, report, fault-find, repair and maintain systems to a high standard. The required skills include installing brackets, cutting, bending and jointing pipes, threading, soldering, etc.
Wall and Floor Tiling Image
Wall and Floor Tiling
Competitors are required to perform various skills including interpretation of drawings, setting out and measurement, preparation of surfaces, laying tiles in the required pattern, grouting and finishing to a high standard.
Welding Image
Welding
Competitors are required to perform various skills including preparation and assembly techniques, use of welding materials, quality assurance, and testing.
